The Tau Devi Lal Park or the Chaudhary Devi Lal Park is another attraction of Gurgaon. It might not be a tourist attraction that is a must see, but if you are going to spend some amount of time in Gurgaon and want to catch its sights and sounds then a visit to the Tau Devi Lal Park is definitely a good idea.

Built For Residents

The purpose of opening this park was so that residents living in the old Gurgaon area could also partake of the benefits that the residents of the new area of Gurgaon were getting as a result of the opening of Leisure Valley in Sector 29. The purpose of the park was to offer the residents of Gurgaon the opportunity to meet, walk, and pursue a wide range of activities in pristine and green surroundings. The idea behind the park was to integrate various fun elements and activities as a part of the park so as to attract residents to spend a day long activity with their families.

Maintenance

The Tau Devi Lal Park was a mammoth undertaking and various departments under the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) are responsible for its upkeep, the chief amongst them being the Horticulture department and the departments of civil and electrical engineering. The park has numerous fountains that are operated every evening. Moreover, there are also pathways that guide the people through the various sections of the park. Benches are placed at regular intervals so that people can rest and enjoy their surroundings.

Fanfare and Criticisms

The park had opened with great fanfare and as is the custom with all parks, monuments, and buildings which are opened in an honour of a political personality, a lot of importance was initially placed on its upkeep. However, after a few years the apathetic attitude of the municipality and the administration in charge has come to the fore. Criticisms have been leveled thick and fast by the residents of the area at the lack of maintenance of the park. There are also suggestions that anti-social elements are having a field day in the park, when no one is about. All this has taken some sheen off from Tau Devil Lal Park.

A Big Park

Whatever the case may be there is no doubt that the Tau Devi Lal Park is the biggest park in Gurgaon and very popular. In spite of the maintenance issues, it is still a popular haunt for families and friends on evenings and weekends. On summer evenings there is a cool breeze flowing through the park and if not for anything else, the breeze in itself should attract you to the park.

If you are in Gurgaon and you want an open place to just walk around and be with yourself or walk with your loved ones or for that matter just sit in the grass amidst all the beautiful things that nature has on offer, you can do no better than giving the Tau Devi Lal Park a look into. It would be worth it.
