Sanghel is another tourist attraction near Gurgaon or one could say tourist attraction of Gurgaon. Gurgaon is not very well known for its tourist attractions but it must be said that if you dig a little beneath what is very obvious, you will come across some gems of attractions, ones that must not be missed if you are visiting the region. Sanghel is such a tourist attraction.
The Highest Mound
There are many mounds in the District of Gurgaon. However, Sanghel is the highest such mound. This mound dates back to hundreds of years and quite possibly thousands of years. This is an important historical site and is also an archaeological attraction. This mound has yielded plenty of grey ware paintings along with various historic wares that date back to medieval times. There have been various stone sculptures that have been unearthed at Sanghel, which have been carved in the likeness of Narasimha and Varaha and also of Goddess Lakshmi of the medieval period and the late medieval period.

History at Its Doorstep
Gurgaon, though in the news since recent times, can trace its history as far back as during the time of the Mahabharata. Back then it was a village, the village of the Guru Dronacharya. Since, then it has always left its mark on history, albeit in a manner that is not very evident. Everyone knew there was a small village called Gurgaon, which later became a small farming town. However, it was not until the emergence of Gurgaon as a center of business and real estate that people sat up and began taking notice. This is also the time when people also started giving importance to the various historical sites in and around Gurgaon, like Sanghel. The history was always there but it began to be noticed only recently.
Location
Sanghel is located at a distance of 13 km south of Nuh on the Nuh Hodal Road. Nuh is the headquarters of the Nuh Tehsil and is situated at a height of 190 meters. It is approximately 45 km from Gurgaon and located on the Delhi - Alwar Road. This town again has historical significance and one must definitely stop over at Nuh, on the way to Sanghel. Another attraction near Sanghel is the Ujina village that is famous for its picturesque lake.
Make it a Point
Its important that you know you history and appreciate the culture of the people who were there before you. Moreover, it is by visiting such sites of historical interest that one can maintain them otherwise they will go to rot. The number of people who make it a point to visit Sanghel has increased over the years. The fact that the number has increased has also been the result of the promotional endeavors of Haryana tourism and the various private tour operators.
